Washington, D.C. - July 16, 2003 - The U.S. Navy’s Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) and Qcorps Residential, Inc. today announced the activation of the NEX Moving Center under the terms of a three-year agreement to make permanent change of station (PCS) moves easier and less stressful for military members and their families. Under the terms of the agreement, Qcorps will streamline the moving process for active duty Navy members who are relocating plus the over 9 million additional authorized members of the Navy Exchange, including members of other services. The NEX Moving Center has been implemented as an effective way to improve the efficiency of military moves at no cost to the Navy or to the military members who use the service. “While frequent relocations are a necessary element in maintaining a force capable of far-reaching and complex military operations, we are constantly looking for ways to reduce the associated inconvenience and stress,” said Rear Admiral William J. Maguire, Commander, NEXCOM. “Our Sailors and their families endure countless day-to-day sacrifices in the defense of our country. Because of this, we have a special obligation to ensure that their quality of life remains as stable and stress-free as possible. We view the NEX Moving Center as a way of delivering on that commitment by providing an end-to-end solution for the difficulties associated with moving.” NEXCOM launched the NEX Moving Center to reduce the stress associated with personnel relocation, which can adversely impact retention efforts and overall force readiness. Accessing the NEX Moving Center directly from the NEXCOM's home page (www.Navy-Nex.com), military personnel can now compare offerings from a broad range of service providers to select and manage change of address forms, local and long distance telephone service, cable and satellite television, Internet access, newspaper subscriptions, moving services, furniture and appliance rental, and other household services. Essentially all of the major brand name local telephone providers in the U.S. support the NEX Moving Center including: SBC, Verizon, BellSouth, Qwest, AT&T, Sprint, Comcast, Cox, AllTel, Z-Tel, Frontier, and Navigator. The major cable and satellite providers also support the NEX Moving Center including: Comcast, Time Warner, Cox, Adelphia, Charter, TVMax, SBC Video, Dish Network, and DIRECTV. While some services are not yet available at certain individual addresses, every Navy community throughout the United States has at least a dozen categories of service, including electricity for over 80 percent of Navy personnel. Qcorps is actively developing new service providers and categories for the Navy. The NEX Moving Center provides significant benefits to military households in several distinctive ways. It saves time by enabling members to arrange all of their household services quickly (typically 3 minutes per service) without the inconvenience of waiting on hold or searching for available service providers at their address. One-stop online shopping (without linking to other websites) is available to all members 24 X 7 from anywhere in the world. Service members save money with the Best Price Guarantee and special discounts available through the NEX Moving Center. The ability to compare service offerings side-by-side along with actual prices and other service details, enables members to make more informed and better buying decisions. The NEX Moving Center helps eliminate essentially all service request errors and provides each user with a permanent personal account summary that is accessible anytime to confirm service order information. Most importantly, the NEX Moving Center is simple and easy to use. “We are proud to have been selected by NEXCOM and believe that our Resident Connection Service Network will make a significant contribution to the quality of life of our military members and their families,” said John W. Meyers, Chairman and CEO of Qcorps. “This is a great example of how the military can work effectively with the private sector to provide significant value to military members at no cost to them or to the government. Our service providers are eager to support the men and women of the armed forces who defend our freedoms,” Mr. Meyers explained.
