AT&T; Supports Cell Phones For Soldiers
Getting a new iPhone or BlackBerry for Christmas? Donate your old cell phone to Cell Phones For Soldiers!
Cell Phones for Soldiers (CPFS) was started in April 2004 by Brittany Bergquist and her brother Robbie after hearing a news report about a local soldier who ran up a massive phone bill calling home from Iraq. The teens decided they wanted to do something to help so they donated money from their piggy banks, collected snack money from their friends at school and, with $21.00, opened a bank account.
Through generous donations and the recycling of cell phones, Brittany and Robbie use the proceeds to purchase prepaid phone cards and distribute them to soldiers overseas. AT&T has supported their efforts by donating half a million dollars in phone cards and has established CPFS drop off locations (PDF) at each of its more than 2,000 company-owned stores across the U.S.
If you are keeping your phone, you can also donate to the cause online!
