WhiteFence Running Team
Every year in January, thousands of runners participate in the Chevron Houston Marathon/ Amoco Half Marathon. This year, WhiteFence is sending its own team of runners to take part in the event, and we couldn't be more excited. The team is made up of people from different departments who have been training for the last few months to run the 13.1 miles of the half marathon. Even yours truly is a part of this awesome group.
We started back in August, which in Texas is probably the worst time of the year that anyone can do just about anything. While the 100 degree training temperatures were rough, it more than likely prepared us for the eventually longer runs we're getting up to now, which are about 10-12 miles. The running team meets every 2 weeks, gradually increasing the mileage each time we get together.
For me, it's been a cool experience to run with co-workers and get more healthy in the process. As of my last weighing, I've lost nearly 40 pounds this year and the running team is definitely a big part of that. I used to dread going out and training, but now I'm really enjoying the whole deal. In fact, it's harder to get out there without my co-workers at this point. We definitely can't wait for the big day, which is on January 17th, 2010. We'll have to post some pictures.
Do any of you participate in teams like this where you work? How has it helped you? Tell us in the comments!
