DIRECTV, along with IGN Entertainment, Microsoft's XBOX, Mountain Dew, Best Buy and Fox Entertainment Media, will be launching The Championship Gaming Series (CGS) in 2007. The new professional video gaming league will have televised league play that takes viewers inside the game competitions.
According to a DIRECTV press release, "the CGS concept is unique to the industry because it
consists of an on-going series of competitions as opposed to the
scattered gaming events that are currently available today. Throughout
the season, teams across the country will battle each other for the
coveted 'Dew Cup.' Details about the Dew Cup will be unveiled by
DIRECTV and Mountain Dew later this year, along with information about
the unprecedented prize money that will be up for grabs in CGS
tournaments."
It looks like we will have to stay tuned to find out exactly what the CGS will bring to the viewers as DIRECTV releases more details about the gaming league. Three gaming tournaments will be televised exclusively on DIRECTV in 2006 as a warm up for what's to come from CGS. You can catch the first of these tournaments on June 21, 2006.
