Alltell is no longer a stand-alone company. It utilizes the service areas and coverage of AT&T; and Verizon. Verizon purchased Alltell in early 2009 and then began to sell some of the assets to AT&T; because of anti-trust laws, which state that a company cannot create a monopoly or eliminate its competition. A variety of areas that used to have Alltell now have AT&T; some have Verizon. Alltell as a company still exists and honors contracts held by those before the merger.
Mobile Broadband
Mobile broadband lets you access the Internet from anywhere with the use of a 3G or 4G modem. The transmitter locks into the company's data network and brings high-speed connectivity to your computer. Your device must be 3G or 4G enabled, such as a tablet or laptop. Smartphones are automatically equipped to use the data network as opposed to a wireless network, which traditional computers and laptops use. Alltell only has a 3G network.
Alltell Service Area
The Alltell service area is a majority of the Midwest and smaller, rural areas. Verizon was interested in taking on Alltell because many of its customers are also in central United States. If you are an existing Alltell customer, type your ZIP code into Alltell's website to determine who has taken over your service area.
Alltell's Mobile Broadband Plans
Alltell is the only company that offers unlimited 3G mobile broadband data transfer. Other companies charge more to increase the amount of data sent over their network. Alltell has four plans to choose from: National Wireless Internet Bundle for $40 if you add a data card line to your package, National Wireless Internet for $60, Internet Anywhere Bundle for $70 which also grants you access to any Alltell Wi-Fi hotspot and Extended Wireless Internet for $100 that includes mobile broadband in the U.S. and Canada. Prices are as of the time of publication. Plans have no overage charges. You may not be able to use Alltell in your area if Verizon or AT&T; have already taken over.
Rate Comparison
Verizon is the leading company when taking into consideration price, speed, coverage, reliability and customer service, according to Top Ten Reviews 2011 on Mobile Broadband. Because most of Alltell is being absorbed into Verizon, Alltell customers benefit from their wide coverage area and similar pricing. Verizon does not offer unlimited mobile broadband, however. AT&T; is the second best company for mobile broadband.
