AT&T; U-verse is a comprehensive system designed to integrate your television, Internet and voice services. The system uses fiber optics to provide advanced digital TV, high speed internet and digital home phone service. Faxing is part of the U-verse package and can be set up to work properly with the entire system.

U-Verse

U-verse is designed to integrate your home media experience, letting you record your favorite shows while you surf the internet and talk on the phone. The TV component offers the ability to digitally record over 160 high definition channels. AT&T; provides high-speed Internet connectivity, home networking between computers on your family's computers and built-in wireless technology. AT&T; U-verse also lets you set up a home phone with your system, complete with integrated features such as the ability to keep your home number and phones, 911 service, battery backup and low international calling rates.

Faxing

Faxing lets you scan physical pieces of paper and send them to other fax machine numbers. Faxing is possible with the AT&T; U-verse system. You have the ability to register your current fax machine with the new system and keep the same number. The fax system is integrated with the "Voice" portion of U-verse and connects to your phone service in a similar way an older fax machine connects to a traditional phone service.

Fax Set Up

The phone lines must be plugged into the correct jacks, or wire locations, for the fax to send properly. The fax LINE connector must be connected to the gateway rather than the PHONE connector to the gateway. The fax line is marked by the word "LINE," an "L" or a small fax icon. The phone line is marked by the word "PHONE," "P" or a small phone icon.

Cost

Faxing from your home incurs no additional cost to the initial U-verse monthly plan, beside the cost of buying the fax machine. The monthly cost for U-verse varies depending on availability in your area and the added features you include in your bundle. AT&T; does not charge extra for having a fax machine hooked up to your home phone.
