HDMI, high definition media interface, is a digital signal protocol for sending audio and video information through a cable connection. The HDMI cable contains 18 metal pins that convey digital video information and up to eight separate audio signals. These pins are arranged within a six-sided plug that connects in seconds to an HDMI jack. The main benefit of connecting with HDMI, aside from the picture and sound quality, is that you need only a single cable to hook up devices such as computers to a TV.
Step 1
Rotate the plug on one end of the HDMI cable so the narrow edge is facing down. Push the plug straight into the matching HDMI jack on your computer or laptop.
Step 2
Insert the plug on the other end of the cable into one of the HDMI jacks on the television set.
Step 3
Turn on the TV and push the video input button on the remote control to display the input jacks on your screen. Press and release the button until you activate the connection with the computer, for example, "HDMI 3." The main desktop image from the computer will then appear on your TV screen.
