A DirecTV TiVo digital video recorder can also work with cable and satellite television. To use the TiVo with your cable TV, you will have to connect the box to your cable source, television and home network. TiVo also has an on-screen setup guide to get you started. Once you have hooked up your TiVo to your entertainment system, it can record any of your favorite shows and movies for later playback. The TiVo remote control will control your device.
Step 1
Unplug your TV and TiVo.
Step 2
Hook the coaxial cable that comes out of your wall into the "Cable In" jack located on your TiVo box.
Step 3
Connect the HDMI video cable from the TiVo's HDMI jack into your television's jack. If you do not have an HDMI port, plug in the blue, green and red component cables into the TiVo's "Video Out" jacks. Connect the other cable ends into the corresponding jacks in your TV's "Video In" ports.
Step 4
Check to see if your home has a Wi-Fi network. If so, hook a TiVo Wireless Network adapter into the TiVo box. If your home does not have a wireless network, plug an Ethernet cable into the TiVo box and connect the other end into your home network box.
Step 5
Plug in your TV and TiVo and turn them both on. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup process.
