Television service providers now offer their customers high definition, digital and fiber optic television services and many new devices. The DVR, or digital video recorder, is one of the most popular devices marketed by television companies such as Verizon. These devices make it possible for customers to watch their favorite shows whenever they want and on any television in the house.
What is a Verizon DVR?
A DVR, or digital video recorder, is a device that digitally records television programs to be played back at a later time. This device makes it possible for customers to record a show as it broadcasts then play it back later, or even begin watching fifteen minutes late and fast forward through the commercials. A DVR performs the same function as its predecessor, the VCR recorder, but it does not require any tapes or discs to store recorded programs. DVR-recorded programs are stored digitally on the device and can be accessed using a remote control.
Types of Verizon DVR
DVR service is available to Verizon FiOS Television customers. FiOS TV is a fiber optic television service that offers customers high definition television that won't cut out during bad weather or pixelate. Verizon FiOS TV customers can choose between the HD DVR or the Multi-Room DVR to complement their FiOS TV service. The HD DVR is recommended for households that have only one television in their home, ideally an HD television. The Multi-Room DVR can be hooked up to the main HD TV and accessed by all other televisions in the house.
Special Features
In addition to recording television programs, a Verizon DVR gives customers the ability to pause and rewind live television programs. Both the HD and Multi-Room DVRs have space to store more than 80 hours of recorded standard definition programming, and they can be programmed to automatically record selected shows or movies. These devices can be operated with the television remote or accessed remotely using via the Internet on a computer or a web-enabled mobile device.
Installation
In addition to their monthly bill for television services, customers who opt to receive the DVR will pay an additional monthly fee for use of a CableCARD that transmits FiOS TV to your television. DVR installation is typically done in conjunction with the initial service installation, but this service can be added later, if you choose. Most Verizon television plans come with free installation and the DVR installation is included.
