Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) allows users to make phone calls with a broadband Internet connection instead of a phone line. Some VoIP services allow calls only to other people who have the same service, while other providers allow users to call any phone number, including cell phones and international numbers. Certain VoIP services only function using a computer or VoIP phone, while other services accommodate traditional home phones with VoIP adapters.
Vonage
Vonage offers unlimited local and long distance calls via VoIP technology, and has low rates for international calls. With Vonage, you can use your own Internet connection and your own phones. Users can also set up as many a five phones in a home on the VoIP line.
Nextiva

They offer additional services such as fax line addition, toll-free 888 numbers and a variety of pricing plans that are on par with other VoIP providers.
Via Talk
Via Talk offers both business and consumer lines. Compared to other VoIP services, Via Talk's prices are low. The Via Talk web site boasts they offer more than 40 features for users, including Call Record, Call Forwarding and enhanced voice-mail that you can access via your phone or web browser.

In addition to common plan benefits like reduced cost international calls, Phone.com customers can keep their original phone number and send faxes. Phone.com also offers a rewards plan for customers for further savings.
VoIP.com
VoIP.com also offers both residential and business plans. In addition to keeping their original phone numbers, VoIP.com customers can choose any area code in the country to set up a new phone number (whether they live in that area or not).
