Comcast provides high-speed Internet service to home and business users. You get significantly higher download and upload speeds than with DSL or dial-up services. The Internet connection comes over a cable connection rather than a phone line. Making the switch from DSL to high-speed Internet starts with a phone call to Comcast.
Step 1
Call 800-266-2278. Follow the prompts to sign up for new Internet service. You will be put in touch with a customer service representative.
Step 2
Inform the representative you want to sign up for Comcast Internet service. You will be asked for contact details, the address where service will be added and your Social Security Number for identification. Provide all of this to create your account with Comcast.
Step 3
Schedule an installation appointment that is convenient for you. A technician will come to your home and set up your new modem and configure your computer's settings so you can access the Internet. You may not have to pay for installation; it depends on promotions being run at the time of setup.
Step 4
Call your DSL or dial-up service provider. Follow the prompts to reach a customer service representative. Tell the representative you want to cancel your service. If you have a contract with your provider, cancellation may be subject to early termination fees. You will also have to return hardware to the provider, if you have any. You may be subject to additional fees if you do not.
