How does DIRECTV Whole-Home DVR Work?

DirecTV is a well-known satellite TV and Internet provider that offers many technologically advanced features to its customers. Most TV providers offer a DVR service, which allows a customer to record shows and watch them later. DirecTV offers Whole-Home DVR. The service is user friendly and cost efficient.

Features

Whole-Home DVR is an advanced form of a DVR service. Customers are able to record their favorite programs from any room and also watch them in any room of the home equipped with a compatible receiver. DirecTV's regular DVR service is $7.00 per month. Whole-Home DVR, for an additional cost of $3.00 per month, allows customers to start a recorded movie in one room and finish it in another. Recording programs is easy. It can be done from any receiver, computer or cell phone.

Equipment Requirements

For Whole-Home DVR to work, each room must be equipped with a HD-capable receiver. Models H-21 and above are considered HD receivers. In addition to the HD-capable receivers, one must be a HD DVR. If you are currently a DirecTV subscriber, you can check if your receivers are HD-capable by logging into your DirecTV account. Click on "My Equipment." The receivers you have will be listed in "My Current Receivers."

How to Order

If you are a new customer, you can order your Whole-Home DVR by going to the DirecTV website or calling 800-531-5000. On the DirecTV website, choose the services you would like to order. Select HD-capable receivers and order the Whole-Home DVR service. If you are currently a DirecTV customer, call 800-531-5000 or log in to your DirecTV account. Once you log in to DirecTV, order any additional HD-capable receivers by going to "My Equipment." Select a receiver by clicking "Add to Cart." Activate Whole-Home DVR by going to "My Services" and clicking "Activate Now."

How to Use

To record a movie or show, simply press the "Record" button on your DVR remote. This can be done while watching a show or from the DirecTV Guide. To watch a recorded program, select "List" from your remote. Scroll down using the remote's arrows and press "Select" when you find the program you would like to watch. Select "Play" by pressing the "Select" button again. You can pause, stop, rewind and fast forward the recorded program. You may do this from any room in your home.
