How to Record TV With DVR Recorders

by Chad Buleen, Demand Media

After your cable service provider has installed a DVR in your home, it is now time to use the device to record the television shows you desire to record. There are two ways you can record a television show. You can record live shows as you are watching them, or you can set the DVR to record at a future point. The process you follow may vary slightly with the brand of DVR you use, but is fairly similar with all DVR brands.

Record a Live Show

Step 1

Turn on your television.

Step 2

Use your remote to turn to the channel that features the show or movie you want to record.

Step 3

Press the "Record" button on the remote control. The show is now recording.

Record a Future Show

Step 1

Turn on your television.

Step 2

Press the "Guide" button on your remote control to open a screen that includes listings of the times and dates when shows and movie will play.

Step 3

Use the arrow buttons on your remote control to navigate to the time and date of the show or movie you want to record.

Step 4

Press the "Record" button. The show now will record when it is broadcast.
