Speaker Cables
Difference Between Instrument Cable & Speaker Cable
Electric guitars and basses rely on their cabling to connect each part of their amplifier systems. Most basic systems include the instrument, which connects to an amplifier head. This amplifier then connects to a speaker cabinet. Each of these connections requires a different cable, as each provides different signal transmissions.
How Do I Use Romex for Speaker Cable?
ROMEX® is a type of electrical cable found throughout all homes. It consists of three separate strands of copper wire sheathed in rubber. Although ROMEX® is not normally considered for use with speakers, the fact that it has copper wires will allow it to work properly in audio applications. ROMEX® is cheap and very durable, making it ideal for many wiring applications, including outdoors. The 12/2 designation is best for speaker wire, which contains two leads with a ground.
