Mobile broadband continues to roll out faster offerings, with Sprint's 4G network serving as a prime example. The ever-increasing speed, coupled with mobile connectivity, has Sprint users wondering if land-line Internet solutions, such as cable, are even necessary anymore. To truly answer the question, one should perform a comparison between the average speeds of Sprint 4G and cable Internet.

Sprint 4G Network Speeds

Average download speeds for the Sprint 4G Network check in between 3 and 5 megabits per second. Peak download speeds, according to Sprint, can reach just above 10 megabits per second as well.

Average Cable Internet Speeds

Average cable Internet speeds fall between 6.5 and 8.5 megabits per second. Peak speed for basic cable Internet packages is 10 megabits per second. Most cable providers also offer more expensive packages that can reach peak speeds of 50 megabits per second.

Comparison

While both mobile broadband and cable can reach peak speeds of around 10 megabits per second, cable offers a greater average speed at 6.5 to 8.5 megabits per second, compared to the 3 to 6 megabits per second of Sprint 4G.

Consumer Preference

Though cable offers more overall speed on average, Sprint 4G does offer the consumer the convenience of mobility. When choosing an Internet package, both speed and convenience should be factored into the decision-making process.
