Digital subscriber line Internet service uses your home phone line to connect your computer to the Internet. Because Time Warner Cable is a cable company and not a phone company, it does not offer DSL. Instead, it offers cable Internet, which uses the television wiring in your home to transmit data to and from your computer. Time Warner offers two types of Internet connections, EarthLink and Road Runner. You can get cable Internet service from Time Warner by choosing your cable package and ordering it on their website.

Step 1

Go to the Time Warner Cable homepage (timewarnercable.com), and click the "Learn" tab. Click the "Internet" link, and read about their different options. Decide whether you want to order EarthLink or Road Runner. EarthLink is a standard cable connection, and Road Runner uses faster fiber optic technology. If you choose Road Runner, decide which speed you want.

Step 2

Click the "Order" tab if you chose Road Runner, then click "Get Started" under the heading New Customers. Input your address so the website can check whether Time Warner Cable service is available in your area.

Step 3

Select the services you want to order. If you only want Internet, scroll down to the Select Your Own Services section and click the box for Internet. Select the speed you want, then click "Continue and Customize" at the bottom of the screen. Add wireless if you want it, then continue to the installation scheduling page. Select two possible appointment times, and click "Continue." Enter your billing information, read and accept the terms and conditions then place your order.

Step 4

Call Time Warner at 800-892-2253 to order EarthLink. A customer service representative will walk you through the process.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you also want to order cable television or home phone service, select the service bundle you want on the Choose Offer page and follow the customization instructions from there.
