As of Monday, BellSouth has successfully returned service to 85 percent of New Orleans. In the article BellSouth restoration at 85 percent in N.O, BellSouth's regional director said that about 165,000 lines were damaged in metro New Orleans.
Currently BellSouth has 1,500 technicians working in the New Orleans area, which is triple the amount that is normally assigned. The technicians have been working in 13 day on, one day off shifts. Because of their hard work, Bellsouth's regional manager said that BellSouth technicians have replaced over 1.2 million feet of cable.
