AOL Broadband Help

If your AOL broadband has suddenly stopped working, you may have exceeded the usage limit. Although many broadband providers claim to give you "unlimited access," the fine print of your contract could hide a clause or limit, such as 60 GB per month. Check your contract or call the AOL support team to discuss your plan and find out if you have exceeded a predetermined limit.

AOL has its own browser, but you do not have to use it. If there is a problem with the connectivity to certain websites or the connection seems generally slow, try using a different browser such as Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari or Google Chrome. If there is still no improvement in speed and connectivity, it may not be a browser issue at all --- examine other factors like download limits.

Check the lights on your router. Although routers differ between models, the DSL light is often green when the Internet is functioning and the power light is "on." If the power is "off," check the router is plugged in. If you recently experienced a power outage, restart the router and check again. If the DSL light is amber, the router may have briefly lost its connection. If nothing works, try a new router.

Some AOL users experience intermittent connectivity, total connection failure and even have to replace their entire setup, including the PC. Poor network or local PC security can lead to your computer contracting computer viruses and trojans. These problems are expensive to fix and can destroy your files. Purchase and install quality firewall, adware and antivirus software. These packages will provide enhanced security and protection from viral downloads. Try restoring your entire system before installation if the issues were serious, but back up essential data first. Always keep electronic backups of important files.
