The Comcast Internet starter kit includes the equipment for installing Internet service in your home or office. The necessary wiring from the cable source to the computer is included in the kit as well as other components to complete the installation requirements. You can pay for installation of your Comcast Internet service or you can order the starter kit and do the job yourself.
Welcome Kit and Service Agreement
The Comcast welcome kit lists all of the features you can expect from your Internet service provider. You can consult the welcome kit to establish your Comcast email account as well as configure your Internet modem and router for wireless service. The service agreement details the service package you have chosen and the terms for that package. Keep the service agreement handy when contacting Comcast customer service. The account number on the agreement will allow the customer service representative to locate your account information quickly.
Coaxial Cables
The coaxial cables are used to transfer the Internet and cable signals from the cable outlet established near your home. From the cable outlet, the cable must connect to the modem and set-top box for cable TV. The Comcast starter kit comes with a 3-foot section and 20-foot section of coaxial cable. Additional cable, if necessary, will have to be purchased by the user. You will need to be experienced in cutting and replacing the ends on the cables to custom fit the cable to the needs of your home or office.
Cable Splitter
The cable splitter is required for those Comcast customers who have purchased a cable TV subscription as well as Internet service. The splitter divides the signal from a single coaxial cable into two signals to be used for each service. From the splitter, you will need to connect two coaxial cables to each output. Run one of the cables to the modem while connecting the other cable to the set-top box.
Modem
Comcast customers can use a modem they have purchased previously or a leased modem from Comcast. Customers who choose to lease from Comcast will have a modem included in their starter kit. One of the two coaxial cables connected to the cable splitter is routed to the modem to establish Internet service connectivity. The modem then is connected to the computer by way of a Cat-5 Ethernet cable. For wireless Internet service, connect the modem to a wireless router by Ethernet cable.
