Comcast Vs. AT&T Cable & Phone Services

by Mark Nero, Demand Media

AT&T; and the Comcast Corporation offer phone service packages with similar services. AT&T;'s U-verse brand and Comcast's Xfinity Voice brand have a number of similarities, including unlimited calling in certain areas and optional features such as second lines and unlisted numbers. Where the two differ, however, is in the pricing structures.

AT&T; Voice Plans

AT&T;'s U-verse service offers two phone plans. One provides unlimited calls for a cost of $35 per month at the time of publication, and that plan includes calls anywhere in North America and internationally. There's also a U-verse Voice 250 Plan, which costs $25 a month and allows you 250 phone minutes each month. Any amount over 250 minutes costs 5 cents per minute. The package includes calls anywhere in the world except Canada.

Comcast Voice Plans

Xfinity Voice from Comcast offers a unlimited calling package, which has an introductory rate of $29.95 per month for the first six months and includes unlimited local and long distance calling in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. After the first six months, the cost rises to $44.95 per month. There's also the Local With More phone service package, which costs $34.95 per month and includes unlimited local calling. It also features nationwide long distance calling for 5 cents per minute, which includes both in-state and out-of-state long distance.

AT&T; Optional Features

AT&T; charges $15 a month for a second phone line at a residence. Although primary phone numbers are published in AT&T; directories for free, a $1.50 fee is charged to publish the number of an additional phone line. There's also a $2.25 monthly charge for a phone number not to be listed in directories and a $2 charge for directory assistance. The company also offers a call tracing feature for $8 a month.

Comcast Optional Features

The cost for an additional phone line with Comcast is up to $11.95 per month, depending on the service area, if the line is for incoming calls only. If the second line is for both incoming and outgoing calls, the cost is up to $21.95 per month. There's no charge for a primary phone line to be listed in a Comcast directory, but the monthly charge for a number to go unlisted is $1.25. Call tracing is free.
