High-definition television sets can connect with a cable television box in a variety of ways, depending on the TV model. Coaxial, the most basic cable connection, uses a threaded metal coupler on each end that fastens to the round, threaded jacks on the cable box and TV. Coaxial cable should only be used if you subscribe to standard definition cable service. To view programs in high definition from your cable provider, hook up a high definition media interface cable for the finest digital picture and sound signals available.
Step 1
Turn off the power to the cable box and the HDTV.
Step 2
Twist on a coaxial cable coupler to the matching output on the back of your cable box or plug in an HDMI cable into the socket labeled "HDMI" on the back of the box.
Step 3
Fasten the other end of your cable to the corresponding input on the rear of your HDTV.
Step 4
Switch on the power for both components.
Step 5
Press the video selector button on your HDTV or the remote control. The TV activates the different input jacks until it reaches the jack connected to your cable box and the image displays on your HDTV.
