How do I Connect My HDTV Cable Box?

High Definition Television (HDTV) is a type of television that has one or two million pixels per frame, which gives it a much higher resolution than that of traditional standard-definition televisions. HDTVs also allow you to watch special HDTV channels if you have signed up for your cable provider's high-definition package, you have the appropriate cables and you have an HD-compatible cable box. The entire process for connecting your television to your HDTV cable box should only take about five minutes.

Step 1

Set the HDTV cable box underneath or beside your HDTV. It should be only a few feet from a wall outlet and the cable wall jack.

Step 2

Connect the coaxial cable that extends from the wall jack to the cable box. This cable will twist in to the port on the cable box just like any other cable connection.

Step 3

Connect one end of the HDMI cable to the output port on the cable box (it will be marked "output"). Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the input port on your television. The HDMI ports look similar to the USB ports on your computer.

Step 4

Plug in the cable box and turn on your television.

Step 5

Navigate to your television's input menu, usually labelled "Input" on your remote control. Select the HDMI option, which should be labelled "HDMI." Exit the input menu.
