How to Connect a DVR Recorder to a Splitter

by Chad Buleen, Demand Media

The digital video recorder (DVR) has revolutionized the way that people watch television. Instead of needing to plan your schedule around your favorite television shows, you instead can program your DVR to record these shows, which lets you watch them when you have time. In some instances, such as when your television has picture-in-picture settings, you may need to use a cable splitter to connect your TV and DVR with the coaxial cable coming into the DVR.

Step 1

Screw one end of a coaxial cable into the cable outlet in the wall.

Step 2

Screw the other end of this cable into the "Input" port on your cable splitter.

Step 3

Screw one end of each of the other two coaxial cables into the two other ports on the splitter.

Step 4

Connect the other end of one of these cables to the DVR, and the end of the other cable to the second device that needs a coaxial cable connection, such as your TV or DVD player.
