The Best Discount Home Landline Phone Service

by Jack Powell, Demand Media

Having a home landline phone service is not as common as it was in the past. Many people use their cell phones as their main phone line and there are many people who make all of their phone calls from their computers. However, there continues to be a need for landline phone service. The trick is to find the service that has the best discounts.

How Often Do You Use Your Landline Phone?

Before you begin your search for a landline phone service, determine how often you plan on using your phone. Many calling plans offer a different amount of phone call minutes. If you are not planning on using your landline phone often, you will be able to get a better discount than if you are using it all of the time. Track how often you use your phone and ask the provider what kind of discounts it offers for usage.

What Type Of Calls Are You Making?

Know how many long distance calls you make or how many calls outside of your area code you make. You can find discounts with your local provider if all of your calls are made within your area code. If you need long distance services, your bill will increase. Know the type of calls you make and ask for service that best matches your needs.

What Special Features Do You Need?

Landline phones have many special features available. Ask yourself what you actually need. Yes, some of the features are convenient; however, if you are not using them, it may not be worth paying for them. Only pay for what you need.

Do Bundles Make Sense?

Many landline service providers offer enticing bundle packages. You can bundle your cable, Internet and landline phones. Oftentimes you can get a discount when you begin your bundled service, but watch your bill when the discount ends. Prices will go up, so pay attention. When this happens, contact your provider and find out what discounts it will offer you next. It never hurts to ask.
