Are FiOS TV & FiOS Internet Two Separate Things?

by Jeris Swanhorst, Demand Media

FiOS from Verizon is a fiber-optic network with large bandwidth that connects directly to customers' homes. From the FiOS network, customers can receive TV and Internet service. There are several FiOS plans from which customers can choose, including bundle packages for TV, Internet and phone service. Customers choosing FiOS service will have a FiOS technician install the connection in their homes.

TV

TV service from FiOS is transmitted through a fiber-optic network. According to Verizon, FiOS TV also offers less pixilation than other TV services. More than 130 HD channels are available with FiOS, as are more than 535 digital channels, access to Facebook and Twitter through the TV, over 24,000 On Demand movies and television programs per month and more.

TV Plans

There are three TV-only FiOS plans. The lowest level plan is Prime HD, which includes more than 195 digital channels and over 50 HD channels. The channels in this plan include basic channels and some other popular channels, such as CNN and Discovery. The mid-level plan is Extreme HD, with over 285 digital channels and more than 70 HD channels. This plan includes several sports and family channels. The top level FiOS TV plan is Ultimate HD, which provides more than 350 digital channels and over 95 HD channels. Offerings in the Ultimate plan include Showtime and The Movie Channel.

Internet

FiOS Internet provides a free wireless router, 24-hour support, fast upload and download speeds, access to Verizon Wi-Fi, installation, an email address and more. As of May 2011, download speeds for movies and music are up to 50 Mbps with FiOS.

Internet Plans

The four FiOS Internet plan options from Verizon are the Fast, Faster, Fastest and Ultimate plans. The download speeds for the plans are 15, 25, 50 and 150 Mbps, respectively. The upload speeds are 5, 25, 20 and 35 Mbps, respectively. Prices for the plans increase as the download speed increases. Customers have the option of bundling Internet service with TV and phone services at an increased price, although the price is less than receiving each service separately.
