How to Play Wii WiFi With Satellite Internet

by Doug Vintage, Demand Media

The Nintendo Wii video game console allows users to connect to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection (WFC) service using standard Wi-Fi functionality. In order to take advantage of the Wi-Fi capabilities of the console, a wireless home network is required. The Wii will only connect to the WFC through a broadband connection such as satellite Internet, DSL and cable. The method of connecting the Wii to the Internet is the same no matter what broadband Internet service provider you use.

Step 1

Click the "Wii" button the lower left corner of the main menu. Click "Wii Settings" to access the first page of the Wii System Settings menu.

Step 2

Click the blue arrow to browse to the second page of the Wii System Settings menu and click "Internet."

Step 3

Click "Connection 1" to set up a new wireless network profile. If a wireless connection profile already exists, select "Clear Settings" to erase the configuration.

Step 4

Select "Wireless Connection" and click "Search for an Access Point." Click "OK" to scan for an access point. Once this scan is complete, a list of available networks will be displayed on the screen.

Step 5

Select your personal wireless network and click "OK." If your home network is secure, you will be asked to enter your personal wireless network security key. Enter the security key and click "OK."

Step 6

Select "Save Settings" to complete the configuration of the wireless profile, and click "Yes" to perform a connection test. Press the "Home" button to return to the main menu if the test was successful. An error code will be displayed if the test was unsuccessful. Navigate the Wii Connection Error Codes website on your computer to troubleshoot your connection problem or contact Nintendo Support for assistance.
