Comcast provides Internet access through XFINITY, its fiber optic network. When you subscribed to Comcast's service, you either received a cable modem and its associated equipment, or opted to use your own mode. Whenever you get a new computer, Comcast recommends that you run through the Internet service process again. This ensures that your new machine is configured to use Internet service. The set up process is a simple one. The process is the same whether you have a modem provided by Comcast, or a third party one.
Step 1
Insert a coaxial cable into your cable jack. Insert the other end of this cable into the Comcast cable modem.
Step 2
Plug the modem's power adapter into the power port on the modem. Plug the other end into a wall socket or power bar. Turn the modem on, if it is a model with a power button. Your modem may take several seconds to acquire its connection to Comcast's service.
Step 3
Plug an Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on the modem. Plug the other end of this cable into your new computer's Ethernet port.
Step 4
Launch your Internet browser. It will automatically direct you to download Comcast's "High-Speed Installation Wizard.
Step 5
Run the "High-Speed Installation Wizard." Answer all questions that appear because your answers determine the installation. Choose a username when prompted to do so. Record this name somewhere because it acts as your email address and your login to Comcast's services. Finish the installation process. If you use a Windows-based computer, you may be prompted to install more applications. These must be installed in order to finish the installation process.
