Xfinity is Comcast's signature communications service that includes Xfinity TV, Xfinity Internet, Xfinity Internet 2go and Xfinity Voice. Xfinity Triple Play is a combination of TV, Internet and home phone service. Xfinity Internet offers online access for both home computers and mobile phone devices. Xfinity Internet is considered a high-speed Internet service.
Features
Xfinity Internet offers Constant Guard, an online protection service that helps guard your passwords and information such as credit card data, user IDs and other sensitive information that can be obtained by hackers. Constant Guard utilizes Norton Security Suite, which defends your computer against viruses, Identity Guard, which offers identity theft protection and Secure Backup and Share, for backup of files that you can't afford to lose.
SmartZone Communications Center
Xfinity's SmartZone Communications Center lets you access voice mail, email and a universal address book in one location, and provides SPAM protection and additional storage space. It also allows you to listen to a voice mail message on your phone when you're online and respond to it as an email. SmartZone can support as many as 90 days of call history and lets you access voice mails in any order, regardless of when the call was received. You can also create as many as seven email accounts, each with 10 GB of storage.
Requirements
To get the most out of your Xfinity Internet service, your computer needs a minimum 1.5 GHz processing speed for a PC or 800 MHz for a Mac. Comcast recommends a minimum of 1 GB of memory, and suggests you use the latest version of Safari, Firefox or Internet Explorer. If you own a PC, use Windows XP, and if you own a Mac, use OS X 10.4 or higher. Ensure that your modem is on Comcast's approved list by accessing the company's website.
Xfinity 2go
Xfinity Internet 2go lets you access the Internet through your mobile phone so you can send emails, surf the Internet, watch television or shop online. This service works with 3G and 4G networks. The 3G network features a download speed of 1.4 megabits per second (Mbps), compared to 6 Mbps for the 4G network, which means a phone with 4G will download information at a faster rate. Xfinity 2go offers two devices: 3G Mobile Hotspot and 3G Mobile Broadband. The Mobile Hotspot device is pocket-sized and lets you connect as many as five devices to a wireless network 30 feet away. The Mobile Broadband device plugs into a USB port of a laptop for immediate Internet access and is compatible with PCs and Macs.
Installation
You can subscribe to Xfinity's Internet service by going to the company's website or by calling the customer service number. You have the option of making an appointment to have a Comcast technician come to your home to install the Internet, or you can obtain a self-install kit online, which lets you set up the Internet at your own convenience by following the instructions provided in a guide.
