WhiteFence's Favorite Vacations

Whew! It's officially summer here in Houston (and, I guess the rest of the northern hemisphere if you want to get technical), meaning it's time for sunburns, endless mowing and vacations!

My wife and I have been mulling over what sort of vacation we could take this year, but we're coming up short on good ideas. With that in mind, I figured I'd poll some of my fellow WhiteFencers about their favorite vacations memories to get some good ideas.

After a very scientific poll, here are the results:

• Jaclyn Thomas, Marketing Optimization Analyst – My favorite vacation was a vacation from my vacation. When studying abroad in Paris, a few of my friends and I took a road trip to Belgium for an extended weekend. We drove to Brussels, Antwerp, and Oostende beach and stayed in hostels along the way, while eating amazing waffles and chocolate. It was the most fun I’ve ever had on vacation because it was an amazing feeling to be on vacation from vacation.

• Amanda Verell, Manager of Product Marketing – My favorite vacation was this past New Year’s when my husband and I went to St. Lucia. A group of 6 of us went, my husband and myself, and each of our sisters plus a friend of theirs. We stayed at the All-Inclusive Sandals resort, which was a great deal, as we could try every drink combination and every restaurant without worrying about a budget or even a wallet! We were able to lounge by the pool, swim in the gorgeous blue ocean, play sand volleyball, and just relax in our bathing suits for a full week.

• Faizan Bodhani, Account Executive – My favorite vacation would have to be the time I went to Europe with a buddy of mine; specifically Paris. Good times…were chased by bouncers and then by a restaurant maître d’ and were almost robbed. Now that I think about it, it was more of a work out. (Why we were chased, is not to be discussed!)

• Veronica Diaz, Graphic Designer – At present, it is a toss-up between relaxing on the white sandy beaches of Cancun, Mexico and a serene visit to Albuquerque, New Mexico in the fall.

• Monica Jimenez – My favorite vacation that I took was to Salt Lake City and Seattle. It was a two-week vacation that started off as a dream come true – two weeks in two cites for only $20, but it was also one of the worst vacation ever!
  
  Anything that could go wrong went wrong, airline lost my ticket from Salt Lake City to Seattle, rental car got a flat at one point and no jack to be found, went camping in a canyon only to find out the borrowed tent came with broken poles and each mishap ending with many fights with the traveling boyfriend. I do look back and can laugh at it all so it still goes down as my favorite vacation. It’s given me a lot of funny stories to tell.
