WhiteFence, one of the fastest-growing companies in Houston, currently has an opportunity for a motivated individual to join our fast-paced company as an Oracle Database Archtitect. In this role you will develop database systems that are more complex with full competency and coordinate with users and developers to determine requirements, validates design, and provides tuning. You will analyze designs, create and implements more complex databases including access methods, device allocations, validation checks, organization and security. This person is ready and willing to take responsibility for the 24x7 operation of a diverse Oracle 10g Enterprise OLTP and data warehousing environment. This person will work with database software vendors and external technical support on issues such as software upgrades, problems and potential solutions. This person maintains multiple mirrored environments and is responsible for verifying backups on a scheduled basis.
Responsibilities
- Oracle 10g EE RAC performance tuning.
- Perform database administration functions for Oracle instances.
- Create/maintain database objects.
- Administer database security.
- Install DBMS software.
- Perform on-call activities for both day and nighttime support.
- Analyze requirements and deploy backups for the various subsystems.
- Monitor the database instances.
- Create/maintain documentation of database installations and other DBMS processes.
- Form a close relationship between the software development team as well as other groups within technology.
- Manage a team of database administrators, report writers and independent contractors.
Requirements
- Four-year college degree in computer science, information systems or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience managing Oracle 10g Enterprise.
- A minimum of 7 years experience in managing Oracle 8 and up.
- A minimum of 5 years experience with data warehousing.
- A minimum of 3 years experience managing and/or leading a team of database administrators and report writers.
- Oracle certifications (10g/9i) are preferred.
- 3+ years experience with Oracle RAC is preferred.
- Knowledge and Proficiency in UNIX including Solaris & Linux.
- Database reporting experience is desirable utilizing Oracle BI tools and/or third party reporting tools.
- A working knowledge of the tools used to support the system such as shell scripting, and database administration tools.
- TeamQuest Oracle performance monitoring experience preferred.
- Ability to effectively interface with and influence personnel at all levels of the organization.
- Exceptional communication (written and oral), change leadership.
- Customer service skills in a team environment.
- Maintain a high sense of urgency.
- Must have a flexible schedule being able to work extended hours, nights, and weekends as needed.
