If you smell a faint odor of natural gas:
- Ensure all appliances that use natural gas are off
- Ventilate the house by opening windows and doors
- Call your natural gas provider for help, preferably from outside the home
If you smell a strong odor of natural gas in your home:
- Leave the house immediately
- Do not turn on any lights, appliances, flashlights or use your phone - these devices can all cause a spark, which may ignite any gas in the air
- Do not open or close any windows or attempt to turn off the gas
- Use a neighbor's phone or your cell phone to call your natural gas provider
