10 Top Rated Cell Phone Service Providers in Atlanta

If you are looking for the best cell phone providers in the Atlanta area, you have a few top contenders to choose from. There are the popular companies with the all the bells and whistles, and then there are companies that have fewer premiums but adequate service. There are even a few companies that provide free phones for qualified individuals. Check out the list below to find a provider that meets your needs.

  1. AT&T – One of the largest phone service providers in the United States, AT&T has been around for decades. With the rise of other heavy hitters in the telecommunications industry, they've been forced to get more competitive with their offerings. One of their perks is the “A List.” The five most important people you call make the list, and you have unlimited calling for these numbers. You’ll be happy to know that those numbers don’t need to be AT&T customers, even. As long as you have a calling plan that’s at least $59 per month, you are eligible to have an “A List.”
  2. MetroPCS – At $40 a month, you can get the basic Metro PCS calling plan. This means you can make unlimited calls. If you want to text or use the Internet on a mobile device, though, you will incur extra fees. If you plan on doing lots of texting, or perhaps you plan to surf the Net on your phone, you will need additional coverage which will cost you a little more.
  3. Sprint PCS – Competition can make things a little sweeter for everyone involved. ATT&T has the A List, but Sprint has the “Any Mobile, Anytime” option. For $69 a month you get to call anyone with a cell phone and talk as long as you like. You don’t need to choose who your favorites are, and you don’t need to worry about what carrier your friends or family are using. Just pick up the phone and call; as long as it’s cell to cell, your call is covered.
  4. T-Mobile – Not long ago there were rumors abounding about the big buy-out by AT&T. T-Mobile customers were caught unawares, but eventually T-Mobile prevailed, and they now offer customers bare bones unlimited calling as low as $49 per month without a contract.
  5. Verizon Wireless – Verizon may not have any particularly appealing specials going on at this time, but they are one of the most reliable carriers in Atlanta's notoriously spotty coverage area. They may not be the cheapest way to go, but you can hear them now.
  6. Cricket – You’ll get access to the high-quality 3G network, unlimited calling and a company that wants to continue to serve you with Cricket. You won’t have to worry about being locked into a service plan or dealing with cancellation fees, either. Cricket does have a wide variety of plans to choose from without contract obligations, and the basic package starts at $30 a month.
  7. Boost Mobile – If you are looking to get away from contracts and locked in plans, you may want to check out Boost Mobile. You will get unlimited calling and texting as well as a Web plan, all without the contract. This will cost you $50 per month. Unfortunately, Boost does not offer the latest in mobile devices at introductory prices, so if you want something a little more trendy, you will need to get it yourself.
  8. Virgin Mobilee – You can get unlimited messaging, email, Web and data usage with 300 minutes of actual talk time on Virgin Mobile for $35 per month. If you are a person that doesn’t talk much, this may just bet the right plan for you.
  9. Straight Talk – This company uses the towers of 3 out of the Big Four (AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile) to service its customers. Your plan and location will determine which towers will be used. There are no contracts with Straight Talk, and you have two options for service. $30 per month will get you 1,000 minutes 1,000 text messages and 30 MB of data. For $45 monthly, you can get unlimited calling, texting and a web plan.
  10. Assurance Wireless – This is one of the special government plans providing free cell phone usage to eligible residents. Income-eligible customers will receive 250 free minutes per month, with the option to purchase more. Just add minutes through the Virgin Mobile Top-Up cards, which are available at many retail locations.
