Like it or not, the school year is quickly ending and your child will be home for the summer. Some couples have the luxury of having one parent at home while the majority of parents are usually both at work for eight hours at a time.
If your child is old enough, you can leave them alone at home, put a remote control in their hand, and call it a day. But who really wants their child to be a couch potato? Some kids are already overweight these days and by planning an eventful and fun summer, childhood obesity statistics will be reduced.
Here are a few summer activities to enroll your child in:
Summer Camps
This is probably the most popular summer activity to enroll your child in. Camps range in all different types: sports, educational, technical, and music. These camps are usually a few days or weeks depending on how much you are willing to pay. You can usually drop them off in the morning and pick them up at the end of the day.
If your kids love sports and are interested in advancing their skills, there is usually a camp dedicated to each school sport. Basketball, football, volleyball, tennis, soccer, and swimming are some of the most popular camps offered in the summer.
Is your child not the athletic type? Educational and technical camps are becoming more popular as parents look to improve their child’s brain power. Web development and other computer science types of camps are slowly gaining popularity as technology advances into the online world.
Is your child a musical genius? Band camps have been popular for ages, so this might be of interest to you especially if your child is currently playing an instrument. Improving their instrument skills will only propel them ahead of their competition when the next school year comes around.
Can’t decide on what camp to choose? Look into a multiple week camp where your child can be housed, fed, and introduced to a variety of activities that are scheduled daily. This is clearly the most expensive option, but knowing they are participating in multiple activities while under adult supervision is always a positive. This is definitely a better alternative than wasting your money on a babysitter.
Summer Memberships
There are many local places around town that offer memberships to those people who are always frequenting the same establishments. If you know you are going back more than two or three times during the summer, in most cases it is likely that you will save a substantial amount of money purchasing a membership.
The YMCA offers memberships and is usually in most cities around the country. Depending on the size of the facility, multiple programs are always offered for kids of all ages.
Museums are great for learning and are usually a focal point of all major cities. Children activities are always being planned and are usually listed on the museum’s website. If multiple activities catch your eye, a membership for the summer usually reduces that cost.
If you are lucky to have a theme park in your city, you should definitely consider purchasing a membership. A one-time entrance fee is usually expensive and one day is never enough time to cover the entire park. Save yourself a boat load of money and purchase a membership. After all, what kid doesn’t like roller coasters or water rides?
Are you ready to take the remote out of your child’s hand? Enroll them in a few of these activities and guarantee them a summer to remember!
