Most telephone companies offer a service called "Call Block." Call Block is a call screening service which allows you to create a list of phone numbers you would like to have blocked on your phone line. When a call is placed from a phone number added to your call block list, the call is routed to a recorded message stating that the called party (which is you) are not accepting phone calls. Your phone never rings. Generally you are allowed to add a maximum of 6 to 12 phone number to your call block list, depending upon the policy of your phone company.
Step 1
Lift the telephone handset. If you are using a cordless phone, activate "Talk" or "Call" mode. Listen for a dial tone.
Step 2
Dial *60 if you are using a touch-tone phone. Dial 1160 if you are using a pulse or rotary dial phone.
Step 3
Follow the voice prompts to add a number to your call block list. If you hear a busy signal instead of voice prompts, Call Block service may not be available in your area or it may not be included in your phone package. Try hanging up the phone and dialing *60, or 1160, followed by 3. If this does not get rid of busy signal, call your phone company's customer support center for further assistance. The contact number is printed on your telephone billing statement.
Tips & Warnings
- You cannot use Call Block service to block calls from 911 emergency, phone numbers originating from outside of your local calling area, toll-free numbers, cell phone numbers or pay phones. To deactivate your call block list, dial *80 if you are using a touch-tone phone. Dial 1180 if you are using a pulse or rotary dial phone.
