Internet service provider NetZero offers multiple dial-up Internet packages that range from a 10-hour per month free access plan, toll-free 800-number access and unlimited dial-up. NetZero also offers a broadband DSL solution. In order to use any of the NetZero dial-up Internet packages, you need a home phone line like the regular copper-line that you use for voice. You can continue to use the line for voice if you like.
Step 1
Unplug your computer and plug a home phone into the jack that you ordinarily have the computer plugged into. Listen for a dial tone. If you hear a dial tone, you will be able to use the home phone with NetZero. If the home phone is a cordless one, you should plug the base into a power outlet first, and allow the handset to charge before performing the test.
Step 2
Connect the stem of the "Y" telephone coupler to the wall jack. Plug the computer modem cable into one branch of the "Y," and the phone cable into the other branch.
Step 3
Place the handset onto the phone base and dial-in to NetZero with the computer to connect to the Internet as you normally do. Disconnect the Internet service on the computer and pick-up the handset to make phone calls. You don't have to unplug the computer branch.
Step 4
Disconnect the phone branch of the "Y" if you are likely to receive incoming calls on the phone and don't want the Internet connection to be dropped. Connect the phone back up again after the Internet session.
