With so many cable, Internet and home phone providers on the market, you may be able to find a better deal by shopping around. Comcast offers all three services that can be purchased independently or packaged together for a better overall value. New customers often get a special introductory rate that lasts for up to six months and sometimes up to a year. If you decide to switch any of your services over to Comcast, check to see what exactly is offered in your area before canceling your current service provider.
Step 1
Call Comcast customer service at 800-266-2278 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 800-266-2278 end_of_the_skype_highlighting and ask about the service offered in your area. Comcast has different packages and not all are offered in every zip code. Alternatively, you can check the Comcast website to search for services in your area. Click on the "Looking for Products and Prices" link in the "Reference" section at the bottom of this article. Enter your home address under the "New Customers" section and click "Continue" to search through the available services and pricing.
Step 2
Call your current service provider and ask to cancel your service. Depending on the service, you may be required to pay an early cancellation fee. This only applies if you have signed a contract for a set amount of time and wish to end the contract early. You will also need to pay any delinquent bills and return any rental equipment such as an Internet modem or cable box.
Step 3
Call Comcast customer service again at 800-266-2278 and follow the prompts to request new service. Alternatively, you can use the Comcast website to order new service and set up an installation time. If ordering on the Internet, you will click the "Add To My Cart" button next to the service you wish to add. You will be asked to customize your order and enter your personal information, then you can set up an installation time and pay for the service. New users must set up an installation time for the services. For instance, an Internet technician will come to your house to install the modem, cable wiring and software required. Comcast cable TV service requires a Comcast cable box and wiring that goes from the outside cable box to the inside of your house through the floor.
Step 4
Ask the customer service about the additional products required to run the service. As an example, if you own a cable Internet modem that was purchased for another service provider, you may be able to use the modem for Comcast Internet service. This can save on monthly costs because Comcast charges a monthly fee for renting a modem. Comcast might also make you pay for additional wiring and equipment rental, so confirm these costs before moving forward.
Step 5
Check your house to verify the room and area you will install the main service. For instance, the cable Internet wire that connects the modem to the outside cable box usually require a hole to be drilled in your floor. It is best to determine which area you want the hardware before damaging your floors; otherwise, you could have an ugly wire going across the room from the hole in the flooring to the modem. If you want to have multiple cable boxes to get cable TV in other rooms, you will need a splitter installed so you can run multiple wires.
Step 6
Answer any questions the technician has and confirm service is up and running before the technician leaves. Once installed, you will be required to pay the first month of service if you have not already. You may also be required to pay the installation fee, though this is sometimes added to your next bill.
