Verizon Wireless is ready for whatever this hurricane season might bring its way, according to a recent Verizon Wireless press release. Verizon Wireless has insured that their customers in hurricane prone areas will have service in the case of a hurricane through investments in network cell sites, switches and infrastructure throughout the years. Additionally, about 90 percent of Verizon Wireless' cell sites in hurricane prone regions have on-site back-up generators, which are routinely tested to ensure they are ready in the event the local electrical power source is knocked out.
To illustrate Verizon Wireless' readiness for the hurricane season, the Verizon Wireless drive tests done following Hurricane Katrina found the company's network averaged an impressive 90 percent call completion rate in impacted areas after the storm, compared to rates of 79 percent and lower among competitors.
