Satellite TV works with a receiver to unscramble the signal for playback on your television. Modern receivers are equipped for hooking up analog components such as a VCR, so you can record programming on videotape, but the tape playback on your TV will be in standard definition only. This is a limitation of recording on video cassettes, which do not offer high-definition screen resolution. The physical connection between the VCR and the satellite receiver takes only a few minutes using color-coded cables.
Step 1
Insert the red, yellow and white connectors on one end of an AV cable into the matching "Out to TV" jacks on the back of your satellite receiver. Plug in the other ends to the three record/input jacks on the VCR.
Step 2
Connect the remaining AV cable from the playback/output jacks on the VCR to a set of inputs on your television.
Step 3
Turn on the satellite receiver and VCR before pressing the channel buttons on the VCR front panel or remote control to select a channel for recording.
Step 4
Turn on the TV and press the video select key on the TV remote control until you see the satellite signal on your screen.
