AT&T; U-verse is another multi-platform communications service provided to homeowners and businesses alike. Similar competitors include Cox Communications or Comcast XFinity. Along with phone service and internet connections, the U-Verse also has television services. Just like its competitors, U-Verse television services include an On-Demand menu that spans selections for movies, television shows, premium channels and special event ordering.
On-Demand Service
AT&T; U-Verse offers an On-Demand service, which gives viewers the ability to watch pre-recorded and special live events outside of the program's original airing. U-Verse remote controls have a special orange "On-Demand" button that takes its viewers to the On-Demand menu, and the menu can also be accessed by selecting Channel 1 on the U-verse channel guide. U-Verse's On-Demand programming has free and pay-per-viewing options.
Movies
Pay-per-view movie selections on U-Verse's On-Demand menu range from older classics to movies released the same day in theatres. There is also a "Just In" category for movies recently released on DVD or Blu-ray. After purchase, they are available for at least 24 hours, giving viewers more flexibility to choose when they watch. Movies are typically shown in standard definition, but newer movies also have the option of high-definition viewing for an additional cost. Movies released theatrically in 3D are sometimes available on-demand in 3D as well for an extra charge.
Premium Channels
For U-Verse subscribers with premium channels like HBO or Showtime, the service lets customers watch some of the premium channel's programming with no additional cost to the subscription. This includes original series programming, special events and some movies. Movies are categorized by genre or date, making selection easier for viewers. Starz, Encore, Cinemax, HBO and Showtime make their some of their shows available in high definition.
Network Programming
Network television shows put their programming on the U-Verse's On-Demand menu. Networks such as Nickelodeon or NBC make some of their television series's episodes available for viewing with no additional charge. These are for a limited time, as indicated before the selection is made. Network movies shown on The Disney Channel or The Lifetime Network are available too.
Special Events
Sports, live concerts and other special events are available for purchase through the U-Verse's On-Demand menu prior to the event, including World Wrestling Entertainment specials, Mixed Martial Arts matches or premium network-sponsored concerts. They are also offered in both standard and high-definition. After you make a purchase, these events are available to watch for 24 hours.
