U-verse is a high-speed, digital networking service offered by AT&T; (att.com). It is not available in all locations, but customers can find out whether it is offered in their area by inputting their address on the U-verse homepage. Although much of AT&T;'s advertising for U-verse focuses on its television service, users can choose to purchase phone and Internet services only.

U-verse

AT&T;'s U-verse service is a fiber optic system, which uses slim wires composed of glass filaments to transmit data to users' televisions, computers and phones. Installing U-verse involves wiring a home or office with these cables. Once installed, U-verse's fiber optic technology sends and receives information in the form of light, which travels through the filaments at light speed. AT&T; U-verse gives consumers the option of subscribing to any combination of television, Internet and phone services.

Bundles

AT&T; sells subscriptions to its services individually and in bundles. Customers who choose to bundle services select more than one service and receive each of them at a discounted price. Consumers may choose to bundle Internet and phone services and not include a cable television subscription.

Internet

U-verse offers users five choices of Internet speeds, ranging from 3 megabytes per second to 24 megabytes per second. The slowest tier is sufficient for users who want to email, download music, share photos and visit social networking sites but do not want to watch videos, game, upload large files or participate in video conferences. The fastest tier allows users to do all these things. The three middle tiers each accommodate some but not all high-speed Internet activities.

Phone

U-verse's basic telephone plan includes 250 minutes monthly minutes. U-verse's unlimited phone plan has no minute limit. Each service includes calls to anywhere within the United States, Canada, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and the Northern Marianas. Users can add a second line to either plan for an additional monthly fee.
