AT&T; U-verse is a comprehensive system designed to integrate your television, Internet and voice services. It uses fiber optics to provide advanced digital TV, high-speed Internet and digital home phone service. It is possible to only buy an Internet package from AT&T; U-verse without having to use its TV and home phone services.
U-verse Internet Service
AT&T; offers a high-speed Internet service coordinated through its U-verse set-up. There is no contract associated with the Internet service and no activation fee. Check the availability of U-verse in your neighborhood before signing up for the service. AT&T; offer packages for residential areas as well as businesses. If you already have contracts for your home phone and television, an Internet-only package may be ideal for your home.
Features
High-speed Internet through AT&T; boasts a number of key features. As an AT&T; customer, you have access to AT&T; email services, which offer 11 email accounts with ample storage space. The browser also comes with an AT&T; toolbar integrated with Yahoo! search technology. You are also able to access AT&T;'s national Wi-Fi network from anywhere in the nation for no additional charge.
Equipment and Installation
U-verse high-speed Internet is powered through the Wireless Gateway. It uses electrical power and transmits throughout the entire home. AT&T; uses an Ethernet connection to connect the Wireless Gateway and does not require an active phone line. If you have a home phone, it does not have to be through AT&T.; The Wireless Gateway allows multiple computers to link together on the system, creates a secure connectivity and provides Wi-Fi for other devices, such as smart phones and printers. The system also comes with a battery backup device that allows your system to run even when the power goes out. If the battery is fully charged, the battery should last about four hours and only be used for essential functions. Installation can be done by a professional, who arrives at your home for installation, confirms the order, places the device for optimal performance and tests the equipment. Self-installation is also possible with the AT&T; installation guides.
Cost
U-verse high-speed Internet can be purchased for as little at $20 per month for 12 months with the Pro Internet package. This connection speed boasts downstream speeds, the speed at which you can download data from the internet, up to 3 MB per second, as of the date of publication. Elite Internet is $25 per month and offers downstream speeds up to 6 MB per second. Max Internet is $30 per month with a downstream speed of 12 MB per second. Max Plus Internet is $40 per month with downstream speeds of 18 MB per second. The fastest internet package is Max Turbo Internet for $50 per month, which offers 24 MB per second.
