Dish Network offers five different DVR packages for subscribers. Each package has different features and utilizes different DVR devices. The pricing is also different between the packages. Additionally, the DVR capabilities vary with some devices offering larger harddrive and storage space for recordings or access by mobile devices. Choosing a Dish DVR boils down to personal needs and budget. Pricing varies depending on programming packages, contracts and other fees as well as special rates that may be offered.
Solo DVR 512
The Solo DVR works with one standard definition (SD) television in the home and allows users to watch a different show while recording another. The users may also record up to two shows at one time and view recorded shows while recording new ones. Users can pause, record, rewind and playback TV while watching and enjoy the Dolby Digital audio through the television or surround sound speakers. The Solo DVR 512 has a 160GB harddrive and supports picture-in-picture (PIP) viewing.
Solo DVR ViP 612
The Solo DVR 612 is a HD (high-definition) version of the standard definition Solo DVR 512, allowing users to pause, record, rewind and playback TV while watching. Like the 512, the Solo DVR 612 only connects to one television in the home and users may watch one program, live or pre-recorded, while recording up to two other programs. The 612 supports SD and HD, including HD quality on-demand features. Additionally, this model contains a 320GB harddrive, doubling the recording capacity from the 512 model.
DuoDVR 625
The DuoDVR 625 connects two televisions in the home, in two separate rooms, allowing users to watch two TVs independently of each other; meaning, you can watch two different channels on the two connected TVs. You can watch TV in one room while recording in another or watch pre-recorded shows while recording up to two other shows simultaneously. The box features Dolby Digital audio but only standard definition programming. The harddrive is 250GB and, like the other models, the DuoDVR 625 supports PIP viewing. This model has a 500GB harddrive and, like the others, allows the user to pause, rewind, record and playback TV while watching as well as watch live or recorded TV at the same time as recording up to two other shows. Like the DuoDVR 625, the DuoDVR ViP 722k allows the user to connect and watch two different TVs in two different rooms, independently of each other and includes a remote for each of the two connected TVs.
ViP 922 DVR
The high-end model of the Dish DVRs is the ViP 922 DVR which connects two TVs, includes a remote for each, and allows independent viewing on the two TVs as well as recording on one while viewing on the other.
