How to Use a DVR on 4.0 Dish Network Universal Remote

by Chad Buleen, Demand Media

DishNetwork -- like other cable and satellite providers -- supplies many of its subscribers with DVRs (digital video recorders). These DVRs are capable of pausing programming, recording shows and sporting events, accessing paid content and performing a number of other functions. If you have Dish Network and the 4.0 universal remote, you may need some help understanding how to use the remote to make the best use of your DVR system.

Step 1

Press the "Power" button on the remote control to turn on your DVR.

Step 2

Press the "+" or "-" buttons on the remote under "Channel" to flip through the channels one at a time. Press the "+" or "-" buttons on the remote under "Volume" to increase or decrease the volume.

Step 3

Click the "Guide" button to open a list of all programming. Press the "Up" or "Down" arrows to see the programming on at a current time. To see programming at a future time, press the "Right" arrow to scroll to a later time.

Step 4

Press the "Record" button on the remote to choose a show to record. This can be a show that currently is running or one that is scheduled to show in the future. You can record a show from the "Guide" menu or from the screen as you watch a show.

Step 5

Press "Pause" to pause a show -- live or recorded.

Step 6

Press "Play" to restart the show.
