How Do I Connect an Antenna Cable to an Outdoor Splitter?

by Chang Lin, Demand Media

The primary function of an antenna cable is to transfer audio and video broadcasting signals to your TV set in order to bring your a crisp, clean image and sound. You need an RF signal splitter and coaxial cables in order to transmit multiple signals to different TV sets around your house or office building. By hooking your coaxial cables to the right inputs and outputs, you can enjoy your favorite TV shows and movies in multiple rooms around your home or office in a matter of minutes.

Step 1

Position the RF signal splitter alongside your home or building so that it is near the exterior antenna. The signal splitter is a rectangular box that measures 2 inches wide by 3 inches long and contains three threaded jacks.

Step 2

Attach the coaxial cable from the "RF IN" jacks on the signal splitter to the "RF OUT" port on the antenna. The "RF IN" signal splitter input jack is generally located on the side opposite of the output jacks.

Step 3

Connect the coaxial cables to the "RF OUT" jacks on the splitter box. Secure the coaxial cable to the splitter box by tightening the couplers on the end of the coaxial cables.

Step 4

Wire the antenna cables into your home or building and connect each cable to the "RF IN" jack on the back of your TV set. Secure each cable to the TV set by tightening the couplers on the end of each cable.
