Comcast delivers high speed Internet to your home through a high-quality cable connection. When Comcast comes to your house to set up the Internet, they will install a cable modem. The cable wire plugs into the Motorola modem and gives you wired Internet access. To create a wireless network for your entire home, you will need to install a network router. Linksys has a line of home routers that connect directly to your Motorola modem to distribute your Comcast cable Internet connection.
Step 1
Set your Linksys router near the Motorola modem and connect the power cable from the back of the router to the wall outlet. Wait 30 seconds for the router to boot.
Step 2
Plug in an Ethernet cable into the back of the "WAN" or "Internet" port on your Linksys router. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the port on the back of the Motorola modem.
Step 3
Connect your computer to the Linksys router using another Ethernet cable. One end of the cable will connect to the Ethernet port on the back or side of your PC. The other end will connect to any of the numbered ports on the back of the router. If the Ethernet cable is connected, you should see a flashing green light on the front panel of the router for both the "Internet" port and the numbered port that the PC is connected to on the router.
Step 4
Open your Web browser and type "192.168.1.1" in the address bar, then click enter. This will take you to the Linksys router set-up page. The page will ask you for a username and password to connect. The Linksys router has a default setting for the username and password; leave the username field blank and type "admin" in the password space.
Step 5
Click the "Setup" tab and select "MAC Address Clone" tab in the submenu.
Step 6
Check the circle next to "Enabled" and click on the "Clone My PC's MAC" button. Choose "Save Settings" once finished.
Step 7
Click on the "Status" tab and look down the screen at the "Internet Connection" section. The IP address should have a field of numbers; if so, you have successfully connected the router to your Comcast cable service. If the numbers are all zeros, click the "IP Address Release" button.
Step 8
Click the "IP Address Renew" button. The IP address should populate with a set of numbers. If the IP address field is still all zeros, unplug your router and modem and restart both devices. Repeat the entire process again to set up the router.
