How Do I Install a Comcast Cable Box?

Step 1

Place the Comcast-compatible cable box next to the digital television set that will receive the signal transmitted through the cable.

Step 2

Locate the coaxial cable that was installed in your home or apartment by a cable technician at an earlier date. It should be attached to a coaxial connector mounted on a wall plate. Screw the free end of the coaxial cable into the "Cable in" connection on the back of the Comcast-compatible cable box. If there is no coaxial cable, you will need to purchase some from an electronics store.

Step 3

Screw one end of the coaxial cable into the coaxial connector on the wall plate and the other end into the "Cable in" connection on the cable box.

Step 4

Plug one end of the included power cable into the power socket on the back of the Comcast-compatible cable box and plug the other end of the power cable into a wall outlet. Allow enough time for the box to be automatically initialized and updated by Comcast. When the time on the box display matches that for your time zone, the box has been initialized and will function properly.

Step 5

Insert one end of a HDMI cable into the HDMI connector on the back of the Comcast-compatible cable box. Insert the other end of the HDMI cable into an HDMI input on the back of the digital television.

Step 6

Turn on the digital television using its remote. Press the "Menu" or "System" button, depending on the model, and use the direction keys on the remote to highlight the "Video" setting on the screen. Select the setting by pressing "Select" or "OK." Repeat this procedure, this time selecting the "Video input" setting. Repeat the procedure a third time, selecting the HDMI input to which the HDMI cable is connected.

Step 7

Press the "Exit," "Menu" or "System" button, depending on the type of remote, to quit the menu settings.

Step 8

Press the "Channel" up or down arrows on the Comcast-compatible cable box remote to change the channels and arrive at the TV program you want to watch. You also can access the desired channel by entering its number on the remote's keypad.
