A HDMI video cable is able to transmit both video and audio, thereby eliminating the need for a separate audio cable. Hooking up an HDMI cable to a video source box, for example, a Blu-ray player or a cable box, is simplified due to the fact that the connectors on either end can only go into a connection slot in one way. The HDMI cable does not have any locking mechanism, but instead keeps the connectors in position through friction.
Step 1
Turn off the video source box to which you are attaching the HDMI connector, for example, a cable box. Rotate the video source box so that its back is facing you.
Step 2
Locate the HDMI connection slot that is on the back panel; typically the horizontal-shaped slot will be set off from the other round-shaped connections.
Step 3
Line up the connector on one end of the HDMI cable with the slot. Insert the connector straight into the slot and push it into the slot until resistance is felt.
Step 4
Rotate the video source box so that the front is again facing you.
Step 5
Locate the HDMI connection slot on the back of a digital television set. Line up the connector on the free end of the HDMI cable with the connection slot on the television set. Insert the connector into the slot and push it into the slot until resistance is felt.
Tips & Warnings
- The short length of HDMI cables require that the two devices you are connecting be as close to each other as possible.
