Wireless DSL modems allow you to do away with the tangle of Ethernet cables normally associated with a broadband Internet connection. However, you may need to use a broadband router in your home or office network for various reasons. You can quickly hook up your wireless DSL modem to your broadband router.
Step 1
Plug the Ethernet cable into your wireless modem's Ethernet connection. There may be several Ethernet ports on your modem, depending on your model. Consult your modem's manual to find the correct port.
Step 2
Plug the other side of that cable into the WAN Ethernet port on your broadband router.
Step 3
Reset the modem and router if your router fails to detect the modem after being plugged in.
Step 4
Check that all other devices formerly connecting through the modem's wireless signal now connected through the router, if you wish all your devices to be on the same network.
Tips & Warnings
- Be sure to check that your modem's cable connections are all plugged in.
- Depending on your modem model, you may not need a broadband router. Certain modems comes with several Ethernet ports so that multiple machines can be connected, as well as being able to allow wireless connections from multiple devices.
