DSL Internet is delivered through phone lines instead of coaxial cables, as is the case with cable Internet. Either way, the Internet will eventually make its way to a modem, which is how you will connect your computer to the Internet. One way of doing this is to set up a wireless router. By doing this, you will allow multiple users to access the internet at once, and it can be shared easily.
Step 1
Attach the wire that comes from your DSL line to the "Input" port on the back of your DSL modem. This will connect your modem to the Internet. Plug your DSL modem into a power source.
Step 2
Plug one end of your Ethernet cable into your DSL modem. On the back, there will be one or several Ethernet ports available for you. This port may be marked "Internet." Plug your Ethernet cord into one of the available ones. Plug the other end into the "Input" port on the back of your Wireless router.
Step 3
Connect one end of the other Ethernet cable into the router "Output" port. Plug the other end of this cable into your computer. The Ethernet port on your computer will be located on the back of a desktop, and on the side of a laptop.
Step 4
Open your preferred web browser. Type in the IP address of your wireless router. This will be provided to you when you purchase the router but it is usually "http://192.168.0.1" or "http://192.168.1.1." by default. Enter in your username and password, which also be given to you when you purchase your router. If you do not know try "admin" for the username with no password. This will take you the setup for your router. Follow the on-screen instructions to create a password for access to your router and to install it properly.
Step 5
Connect to your wireless network using your computers Wi-Fi settings. Enter in the password that you gave your network and click "OK." You will now be able to use your DSL service wirelessly.
Tips & Warnings
