DirecTV and Dish Network are both satellite providers that offer TV programming services. Both companies provide different choices for their customers at different prices. Choosing which packages and provider are right for you depends on what features you want and your specific needs.

Packages

Dish Network offers several packages based on the programming options. Its smallest package is known as Dish America, which offers over 60 popular channels, including basic channels such as ESPN, TNT and ABC. Its biggest package is America's Everything, which includes premium movie channels. DirecTV has packages that follow the same basic tiers but offers more channels with its largest package, DirecTV Premier. Dish Network has six different packages, offering more flexibility than DirecTV which only offers four.

Cost

When comparing the cost of similar packages from Dish Network and DirecTV, on average it costs about $10 more a month for DirecTV as of 2011.
